Perinatal Counselling
The term perinatal refers to the time of conception up to one year postpartum. In this time it is not uncommon for pre-existing mental health conditions to increase intensity but also new conditions can arise. The journey from conception, to pregnancy and motherhood is far from linear and can be fraught with anticipation, doubt and pressure.
In this time a woman is between two worlds: the world of her inner thoughts and feelings against the backdrop of the world that society leads us to believe of pregnancy and motherhood. Here is where a lot of thoughts, feelings and behaviours can become internalised. Often this time of a woman’s life is full of overwhelming change and with this change can come a sense of loss.
I work with women in this perinatal phase and into motherhood to allow them to explore, unravel, understand and normalise their experience with compassion for their journey. Some of the main presentations I work with are:
Matrescence education
Anxiety (antenatally and postnatally)
Depression (antenatally and postnatally)
Fertility treatment
Birth trauma
Loss
Intrusive thoughts
Expanding families

General Female Mental Health
As women we wear many hats and are many things to many people. No matter what journey we choose we may experience difficult transitions and stressors in our lives, both psychologically and emotionally. These stresses can result in conflict, loss, distress and overwhelm. This is often due to societal expectations versus reality. It is so easy for us to lose our way under the weight of these expectations.
What if I told you there was a space where you could safely explore and unravel how you’ve gotten to this point?
In this supportive cocoon, I will work with you one to one to understand your reality including all the contributing factors that have led you here. My approach is client focused, integrative and is not one size fits all. I meet you where you are emotionally and work in an empathetic style to help you feel safe, supported and heard.
